2014 Wrestling World Championships – Participants by Regions

Made this chart of number of participants from different regions of the globe who are entered in the 2014 Wrestling World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan:

2014 worlds by region

I took the updated FILA list of participants found on the always excellent TheOpenMat and coded each country to a region of the globe. Had to do it quickly so there may be some errors and I don’t have time to dig too deep into the data. First impressions are Western Europe loves Greco, no one in Australia or New Zealand wrestles, and outside of Europe (and North Africa), freestyle is more popular (or has no fewer participants than G-R anyway).

Hopefully I’ll have more soon.

OK NOW I HAVE MORE

Made a chart for each region, except for Africa, which I combined into one, and I also combined North America and the Pacific, because they each only had 2 measly countries a piece.

The graphic design needs some work but, eh, close enough.

Only 7 countries are sending a full accompaniment of wrestlers. Muricans, Ruskies, Ukraine, India, Uzebeks, Kazakhs and Nihon. Belarus and China are sending 23 of 24 possible athletes.
