Been a while since I broke off a matrix so now that we’ve eased into the 2015-16 NCAA D1 wrestling season I figured it was time to post a new one.
I didn’t forget about you Lock Haven!
Rankings are from Gregg Henry at Wrestling Report. A number 1 ranking gets 33 points, number 2 gets 32, etc down to 1 point for a 33rd rank. After a pivot tabling and some conditional formatting we get what we see here. I also bolded the finalists.
Penn State looking strong. I think the performances thus far by Nolf and Nickal have justified a status as NCAA frontrunner, even without a healthy heavyweight on the roster. Iowa and Okie State have a few more holes but I think they are the next 2 contenders come tournament time.
Nebraska and Lehigh are the only 2 teams with a top 33 wrestler in every weight. Cornell has 3 number ones and a lot of room for improvement.
Of course it’s only mid-December and the Scuffle and Midlands are always good for some ranking enjumblement. Still a nice snapshot of the NCAA season so far.
Thanks to Mr Henry and the folks at Wrestling Report for the rankings. Very much appreciated!
